A Brief History of Prescott Valley

When early settlers first discovered gold in 1863, Arizona quickly became a U.S. territory, and others rushed in to claim some of this newfound wealth. Besides mining, newcomers discovered amazing landscapes, plus an abundance of timber and other mineral wealth and open land for grazing cattle. Northern Arizona soon grew rapidly, and many little towns and cities sprang up to accommodate the sudden influx of people.

The nearby larger city of Prescott, which was the territory capital twice (once in 1864 and again in 1877), is the biggest city in the area, and in the mid-1960s, several real estate developers began developing land around the Prescott area. A Phoenix company purchased Prescott Valley land approximately 10 miles from Prescott, and set out to build and sell homes there. It wasn't long before the mild weather, lovely scenery and affordable homes attracted a great many residents to the unincorporated area now known as Prescott Valley.

With a cooler climate and abundant natural resources, Prescott Valley enjoyed a more relaxed pace than its neighbor of Prescott. Mining, ranching, farming and general industry became the main trades of Prescott Valley residents. In 1978, Prescott Valley's 1,500 residents voted to become a town. Today, as one of the most splendid among northern Arizona's communities, Prescott Valley Real Estate is one of the premiere places to live, work and play, and Prescott real estate continues to rise in demand.
